Tip fitting for climbing skins
A new tip fitting for skins where the maker no longer sells the part, drawn to your own ski tip.
The problem
The skins are fine, the glue is fine, and then the plastic bail at the tip snaps on a cold morning. The part is not sold separately, and a perfectly good set of skins ends up in a box.
The fix
The part is drawn to the ski tip and to the slot in the skin. The material choice is the whole job: PLA is out, it turns brittle well before minus ten. PETG copes with cold better, and where the part has to flex it becomes TPU. Nylon looks strongest on paper and is the wrong answer here — it takes up moisture and loses most of its stiffness once it has.
The test is dull and necessary: a night in the freezer at minus twenty, then fifty bends straight out of it. If it survives that, it will survive the day out. This is a repair part for skins. Parts belonging to the binding are not something I will make.
